Kwasizabantu Projects - Avocado Pears
One of the many KSB projects to help assist the mission work is the Avocado Pear
project. Being seasonal (from end of July to November) everything has to be done in a rush
because of the enormous amount of fruit needing to be sorted, packed and transported. Some
of top quality avocados are packed into containers for export. Others, depending on the
local market, are sent to the bigger South African markets.
This year has seen enormous expansion because of the thousands of young avo trees
starting to bear, as well as the necessity to keep up with International standards
required for export. New equipment has been installed to this effect. The Avocado Pear
project is one of over 20 which assist the mission with food and finance, as well as
providing skills training and employment.
Most of the photos below show the construction of the new machinery before the avocado
season.
