DSS GIRLS HOSTEL

Domino Servite School (DSS) was established in 1986. There are approximately 500 pupils
and 35 teachers. The Girls Hostel can accommodate about 120 girls - 4 per bedroom. It also
has a teachers section.
The main aim of DSS is to lead the children to Christ. As Pastor Erlo Stegen often says,
"educate a person without Christ and all you have is a clever devil."
A year of English (which we call "grade 0") is given to children whose mother
language is not English. This is one of the best ways for children of different language
groups to be successfully integrated into a class where English is the medium of
instruction.
About 80% of the children are Zulu speaking and come from economically poor backgrounds.
By God's grace, there have been outstanding academic results over the past 12 years. At a
time when the national standard is less than 50% matric pass, DSS has consistently been
achieving a 100% pass rate, as well as some of the top pupils in the country.
Pastor Alpheus Mdlalose is the chairman of the Governing Board.
