26 Oct 2003 - "Jesus, the Faithful and True One"

(Summary of sermon by Rev Erlo Stegen)

Revelation 19: 11-16

"And I saw the heaven open up, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True and in righteousness he doth judge and make war ...."

In Hebrew "In the beginning God" means that God is the first in time, position, order and rank. When U. Erlo and others first came to KwaSizabantu they came to seek God, not material things. They were of one mind, they wanted to seek nothing except God. It is the same today. Projects started since then have been gifts from God and we give thanks for them. This is a place where people can come to seek God first, not other things.
God tested Abraham to see where his heart was, with his son or with God? Put God in the beginning of everything.

Swiss people are very precise, neat, and tidy. The God-fearing director of Swiss Air put God first in everything. When he retired, the new director said that now they're free from God and can do things the way they like - the way they thought things should go. After ten years Swiss Air was bankrupt.

A Frenchman looked for the reason why America is so prosperous and found Bibles in all homes he visited. He realised that that was the reason for America's success. England experienced the same, but when they stopped recognising the Bible and putting God first, they lost power.
God is even recognised on the US money - "In God We Trust". The two sparrows on our cent represented God's provision for us, but now it has been removed.

In Revelations John saw Jesus (the Faithful and True one, even when many people are unfaithful ) riding a white horse which symbolises purity and cleanliness. He comes to judge in rightousness. He entered Jerusalem on a donkey, which symbolises peace. A horse symbolises war and the coming for battle. We must be involved with the Good Fight. Sometimes parents can see the wrong in other children's lives but cannot see it in their own children's lives.

We must get ready, for Jesus is coming, to judge. Some diseases people have, are a consequence of their sin. He will judge in heavenly righteousness - not according to man's eyes. Even if we ignore Him and don't accept Him, he will still come. His robe is dyed in blood, which signifies His blood which he shed for us and bought us with.

The troops of heaven with him were wearing dazzling, white, clean clothing and riding white horses, just like Christ Himself. What kind of horse are you riding? What kind of clothes are you wearing?
May our 'horses' be holy and our garments become sanctified.

Inscribed on the Lord's thigh is the name, "King of kings and Lord of lords". If things in the world go wrong all around us, Jesus still stands.
Hitler conquered one nation after another in WW II, but his victory was brief; after a few years he was defeated. He won a few battles but did not win the war. We Christians may lose a few battles but Christ is victor.

Be faithful to the end. Jesus has a name no one knows but He will reveal it to us in eternity. At anytime He may come down and go into our homes. He can see things done in darkness and behind closed doors. He is Almighty and above all.
