21 December 2003 - `His coming'

Text: Luke 24:50-51; Acts 1:11
Introduction:
- The Advent
- The Bible is the Word of God
"All Scripture is God-breathed", IITim.3:16
"And is useful", IITim.3:16
- For teaching
- For rebuking
- For correcting
- For training in righteousness
- The Bible is certain about the Parousia
- Jesus was taken up while blessing His disciples.
- Jesus was hidden from them by a cloud when taken up.
- Jesus will come back in the same way He was taken up.
- The cloud that hid Him is the cloud that will reveal Him.
- The Second Coming is certain!!!
4.The Bible and Parousia: Why the delay?
- Today’s message focuses on the delay.
- Not
on convincing about the issue..
- Not
to speculate on how it will occur.
- Not
to argue/debate.
- Today the focus is on someone causing the delay: DO YOU KNOW WHO?
Theme: II THESSALONIANS 2:1-12
THE MAN OF LAWLESSNESS CAUSES THE DELAY

- The man of lawlessness will be revealed, vs3
- He brings rebellion, vs3
- He will oppose everything that is called God, vs4
- He will oppose everything that is worshipped., vs4
- He will set himself up in God’s Temple.
- He will proclaim himself to be God.
- He will be in accordance with the work of Satan, vs9
- All kinds of counterfeit: miracles, signs & wonders.
- Every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing.
- The man of lawlessness is already at work, vs7
- He is holding back the Coming of the Lord
- He will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.
NB: HIS SECRET POWER OF LAWLESSNESS IS ALREADY AT WORK, vs7
- The man of lawlessness will then be revealed, vs8
- The Lord Jesus will overthrow him with the breath of His mouth, vs8
NB: breath = the spoken word
- The Lord Jesus will destroy him by the splendour of His coming.
Conclussion: TWO BODIES ARE IN FORMATION
- The Body of Christ is formed (Ecclesia)
- The body of the antichrist = those who are perishing, vs10
- They perish for refusing to love the truth, vs10
- They perish for not believing the truth, vs12
- They believe the lie, vs11
- They delight in wickedness, vs12
WHICH BODY IS YOUR BODY?

With Christmas, Christians also remind themselves of the advent -
the coming of Christ into this world. This is a time of humbling oneself and testing
oneself whether you're still in the faith. From 2Tim 3:16 we see that all scripture
is God-breathed, and useful to teach, rebuke, correct, and training in righteousness. The
Bible confirms to us the second coming of Christ.
What is witholding Christ's coming? In 2Thes 2:1 - 12 we see that
the lawless one is coming in rebellion, opposing everything worshipped and setting himself
up as God. The Lord will overthrow him with the breath of His mouth and the splendour of
His coming. The antichrist spirit is already at work in the world. He is a religious
person. One finds that the greatest opponents of God's work are those who heard the Word
and turned their backs on it.
This spirit divides into two camps.
The first is the body of Christ. Those that are allowing the Word
of God to cleanse and purify them, are being made part of this body of Christ. They are
chosen out of the world.
The second is the body of the antichrist. They are the ones who did not believe and
receive the truth they heard, that they might be saved. Then God sends them delusion and
they are part of the body of the antichrist.
To which body do you belong? Will you be left behind when Christ
comes again, or meet Him in the skies? |
