30 Sept 2007 - "Experience Gethsemane"

(Summary of sermon by Rev Friedel Stegen)

Genesis 12:1, "Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, from your family and from your father’s house, to a land that I will show you.” "

To submit to God's will isn't easy. Christians say they want to do God's will but when it is contrary to their thinking, feeling and knowledge, then it is difficult because sometimes His way is Gethsemane. God told Abraham to go to another land and he obeyed. Lot went with him and after a while their herdsmen started to fight. When Abraham suggested that they should part from each other for the sake of peace, Lot agreed and chose what he thought to be the best country for himself.

In 2 Peter 2:6 - 8 we read that Lot was a righteous man; but he failed because he had not experienced Gethsemane in his life. It was clear that there was a difference between Abraham and Lot. It is essential to experience Gethsemane in your life.

Lot's actions ruined him and his life ended in disgrace. When the angels came to rescue him, they had to more or less drag him out. He was unwilling to leave because his heart was still with his possessions.

Can you be the servant of all and be the least? Stay with the Lord no matter what the cost. May we experience Gethsemane and say "God, Your will be done."
