Prov 3:5 "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and
lean not on your own understanding."
We do not know what will happen tomorrow. In fact we do not even
know how this day will end. Our lives are in God's hand.
To trust in the Lord is to stand and remain
steadfast. It refers to faithfulness and stability in our lives. We must be bound
firmly to the Lord, so that nothing shall separate us from God.
Great ships on the sea go through terrible storms from time to
time. Once the captain of such a ship was in a terrible storm and he bound himself to the
column so that he could steer the ship and not be thrown around on the deck. So he managed
to bring the ship safely through the storm.
In the same way we must bind ourselves firmly to our Column, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Are you ready to meet God? He comes as a thief in the night; woe
to you if you are not ready. Do not be stubborn but bow to Him as Lord and Saviour and put
your trust in Him.
If we trust in the Lord then only do we have a good understanding.
Another story is told of a young man who had to climb the mast of
a big ship to fix things at the top. However the ship swayed from side to side in the
storm and the young man began to become dizzy. The captain of the ship realised that the
young man could fall at any moment to certain death, so he shouted at the top of his
voice, Young man, look up; and the man obeyed instantly, lost his dizziness
and was saved by "looking up" while climbing down.
So too we must take these words to heart. Always look up and do not lean to
your own understanding and it shall be well with you.
The eagle is the only animal that can look directly into the sun
and not be blinded. When there is danger from another bird it simply flies directly into
the sun and so the other bird cannot follow for it cannot see it.
We must be like the eagle and look to our Sun, the Lord Jesus Christ and hide in Him. Then
we will be safe. We do not know the future but we know Him who holds the future.
