Immorality
About Temptation
"Happy is the man who doesn't give in and do wrong when he is tempted, for
afterwards he will get as his reward the crown of life that God has promised those who
love him." JAMES 1 VERSE 12
"And remember, when someone wants to do wrong it is never God who is tempting
him, for God never wants to do wrong and never tempts anyone else to do it. Temptation is
the pull of man's own evil thoughts and wishes." JAMES 1 VERSES 13 & 14
"When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God
cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his
own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it
gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming
down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He
chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits
of all he created." JAMES 1
VERSES 13-18
"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and
wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known
about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation
of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been
clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him,
but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they
claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for
images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity
for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a
lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever
praised. Amen.
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged
natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural
relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent
acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he
gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become
filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy,
murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent,
arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they
are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree
that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very
things but also approve of those who practice them." ROMANS 1 VERSES 18-32
About Lust
"Don't lust for their beauty. Don't let their coyness seduce you. For a
prostitute will bring a man to poverty, and an adulteress may cost him his very
life." PROVERBS 7 VERSES 25 & 26
"So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the
sinful nature. For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the
Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so
that you do not do what you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.
The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition,
dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did
before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness,
faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who
belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become
conceited, provoking and envying each other." GALATIANS 5 VERSES 16-26
About Sexual Immorality
"That is why I say to run from sexual sin. No other sin affects the body as
this one does. When you sin this sin it is against your own body." I CORINTHIANS 6 VERSE 18
"You have heard that it was said, `Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that
anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his
heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better
for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell."
MATTHEW 5 VERSES 27-29
"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires
that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you
cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask
God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may
spend what you get on your pleasures.
You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward
God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God." JAMES 4 VERSES 1-4
"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the
love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man,
the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father
but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of
God lives forever." 1 JOHN 2
