One Week in Mozambique - Fire service, food distribution and ministry
(January 2006)

(written by John Powys dscf0001.jpg (51585 bytes))

A team of five co-workers left the mission on 24th January to Mocambique. After spending the first day in the capital city Maputo doing administrative business we heard the news about the death of Thomas' father-in- law. That meant we had to change plans and fly him back the next day to South Africa. The team of four then continued to Carlos who lives about 660 km north of Maputo. The roads are improved up to Xai Xai but after that the national road is no fun to travel, however we arrived safely and without incident to be met by a very happy Carlos.

On Friday Carlos had arranged youth services with his own youth and youth from other churches in the area, we could see the spiritual growth in his young people and especially the beautiful choir.

On Saturday were parents services and also a mens service where the Lord really worked and people asked many questions pertaining to the spiritual life, testimonies of thankfulness for recieving the truth were heard.

A Muslim family had recently turned to Christ and decided to break with all sin. The family brought witchcraft articles to be burnt in public. As these articles were shown to the congregation and explained what they were for it was wonderful to see the facial expressions of these new converts as they saw and realised the folly of their old deception.

God is doing great things in that area in spite of dire poverty and shortage of food due to droughts and floods.

We returned on Sunday and slept the night at a Bible school called Volta a Biblia, these are new contacts about half way between Carlos and home. We were well recieved and enjoyed good Christian hospitality. What was shocking was to hear that many preachers of the Gospel when starting at the Bible school do not know where to find Genesis in the Bible, this only proves how great the need is to preach and teach the Unsearchable riches of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
