December 2009 Youth Conference 13 to 18 December "There is a Rock - Likhona iDwala Lokucasha" Summary of Sermon by Rev Erlo Stegen, 14 Dec 2009, 19.00 God is Omnipotent and Almighty. He is not just in heaven. Nevertheless heaven is His home and that of the holy angels. We pray, "our Father who art in Heaven", but He is also here on earth. Let us use a weak illustration. The sun is high up in the sky, yet the rays of the sun reaches the deepest valley and highest mountain all over the earth. God is much greater and exalted than the sun. God's presence reaches everywhere. God is here as well as overseas in Europe and on the other side of the globe. At Christmas we celebrate how God sent His only begotten Son to be
born of Mary. Jesus Who is God became flesh. In the letter of Peter we read that the angels long and watch with anticipation to behold the mysteries and wisdom of God displayed among men. When God clothed Himself in human flesh like ours, His blood wasn't like ours. His blood is Divine. If you are washed in the Blood of the Lord Jesus you are not washed in the blood of animals or even a human, but His Blood is precious and Divine. No other blood can wash away our sins, except the precious Blood of the Lord Jesus. Jesus is truly God and truly man. It is a great mystery. Jesus was born on this earth, which is full of bloodshed and fighting and sin. What is this that drove the angels to behold what was happening on earth? They didn't have any interest in drunkenness, immorality or the riches and pomp of this world. They came to proclaim the everlasting Gospel of God becoming man. Has the birth of Jesus into this world ever stirred you? You can call the minister to pray with you and even give you the Lord's supper to eat when you die but it won't take away your sin. You must be washed in the Blood of the Lamb. These shepherds feared God awaiting the Messiah. It must have been amazing to behold this multitude of angels
praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the Highest and on earth peace, goodwill
toward men". As they rejoiced so all of us should rejoice for this great Gift
God gave to save us from our sin. No one is excluded from this great Gift to be saved from
their sins, except those who exclude themselves.
