10:00 Service

John Powys/Wilfred Mabizela

Hebr 13:8-9

8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9Do not be carried about[3] with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. All the fashions and opinions of this world, and even the theologians ideas might change, yet Jesus remains the same. Those that want to follow Him, must obey Him and bow to Him.

A favourite with young people today is that "God sees the heart, and knows that I love Him", and so they live in sin. Recently, a Christian married man went to a prostitute, and after sinning, he felt bad, and said to the prostitute that he was a Christian and should never have done it. Then the prostitute answered and said, "Don't worry, I'm also a Christian, God knows our weaknesses, and understands". This is an abuse of the word Christian.

It matters to God what we do, what we are and what we look like. Just take Abraham for example, whom God knew. Still God commanded him to go to the point of putting his son on the altar and lifting the knife to sacrifice him, before God said, "Now I know that you fear God".

It doesn't help to say you love God, but you do not keep His commandments. It is deception and a strange doctrine to confess to be a Christian, but your works deny God and disobey Him. When you say, "God knows my weakness", and carries on with sin, you are actually saying that your God has changed. In the past He's set the captives free, opened the eyes of the blind, healed the sick, and destroyed the works of the devil, but He cannot set you free from your sin. Your Jesus has changed and become politically correct.

No, the Bible's Jesus never changes, yesterday, today and forever. Even if the whole world and even all the theologians and scientists do not agree with Him, He does not change. They will have to change, and bow to Him; He does not change. Only one thing will help you; to come to Him today, confess and forsake your sin, and you will receive mercy and forgiveness.

The Bible says one day we will be judged by our works.

So, today, 2003, He is still the same. He looks at your deeds today. As you are here today, He judges you by your works. It's wonderful to say you love Him, but what are your deeds like? What sins are behind you that have never been dealt with? Those sins are written in the books of heaven. For everyone of us, there is a book in heaven where all our deeds are written.

A Christian is always the same. He does not change with the tide or fashions, because his Lord never changes. His heart and mind is established and fixed in grace and stays the same.
