Illustrations of `Now is the Acceptable Time'

(Please keep in mind that these stories are transcribed 3rd hand. The original stories are often in English, retold by the preacher in Zulu, translated into English and then brief notes are made.)

The story of the Sports Car and the Bible: There was a young man, finished matric and went to College to study there. When he was about to graduated, he would walk often to the showroom to check out the red racemotor. His father was a very wealthy man. He wished to have a brand new sportsmodel car for his graduation.

On the day of his graduation his father called him to his office. The father took a beautiful wrapped giftbox and handed it over to his son. The boy was dissappointed and said: "Dad, I asked for that car, and now here is just a box".

The father said: I am proud of you, and I am so glad that you receive your degree, here is your present.

The boy opened the box and in was a Bible. He became angry and stormed out of the office. I wanted a car and now I get a Bible. What must I do with a Bible?

He left that day and for years he didn't come home again. He married and got a job and prospered. One day he got the message that his father has died and left them an inheritance.

He went home. His father's will said that he would be the main heir. He sat at his father's desk in his father's office. And then he came to the box his father had given him years back. He opened the box. Then he opened the Bible and on the first page he read: My dear son, here is the Book which I give you. Matth.7:11.

The son wept. And something fell out of the Bible. It was a key. It was the key of the very same sportscar he wished for his graduation. On the back of the tag of the key his father had written: PAID IN FULL

The son could just have gone and get it. The father had hidden it in the Bible, and the son had rejected the Bible, not knowing it was in there. There are riches God has hidden in the Bible, which are far greater then a motorcar. When God says: Now is the acceptable time, you don't know all the great things God has in store for you. By allowing the devil to blind you, you loose all this. Behold, now is the acceptable time. Now is your day of salvation. (click here for complete story)

Story of Olympic diver:  There was a young man who wanted to participate in the Olympics. His friend had given his life to the Lord Jesus. The friend would often encourage his friend to turn to the Lord. The man's speciality was high-diving.

He had said: No, I wouldn't have time for that,it would mean prayer and bible-study and I want to become no.1 in the world.

The night before the big event he decided to go to the pool to practise. He was all alone. He didn't switch on the lights, there was enough light coming through the windows. Behind him was an outside light burning. As he stood on the divingboard doing his stretches, the light behind him cast his shadow on the wall in front of him like a Cross. Reminding him of the Lord Jesus who died for him at the cross. His heart broke and he said: Lord, now, now I surrender to You. He prayed like a dying man. He said: My friend pleaded long time with me, but now, now is my time to surrender to you. He stood up from his knees and suddenly the caretaker of the building switched on the lights. And as he looked down he noticed that the pool was empty! There was not a drop of water in it as it had been drained. He thanked the Lord Jesus for saving his soul and life as well.
