Youth
Week - July 2003
3 July, 7pm:
DFL addressed the following issues during the evening session:
Abortion (Ronell Carstens):
Six years ago the daughter of the Premier of the Free State (today he is the minister
of defense) hung herself because she had taken the life of her child through abortion.
Abortion is encouraged in South Africa, but although abortion seems to solve your
problems, it creates an even bigger problem. Guilt, nightmares, flashbacks, distorted
relationships, depression and suicide are all consequences of abortion. A study has shown
(please contact Ronell at DFL for details) that 100% of women who had abortions suffer
from severe depression.
Abortion also affects men, for they too commit murder if they force their girlfriend to
have an abortion.
Drugs (Liam Buys):
Drugs destroys all the dreams of a young person's life. He showed slides of the true
story of Laura, who was the top student at school. She got involved with drugs, lost her
job, husband and respect and lived on the street. Within 10 years the drugs had destroyed
her life and she died. For further information or help, please call DFL at:

AIDS (Dr Willem Vlok):
He is one of approximately 900 other doctors who belong to DFL. 40% of the patients he
tested are HIV+ in KZN. 600 people die of AIDS in KZN per day.
There are 3 ways to contract HIV:
1) HIV+ blood to blood contact
2) Mother to child
3) 95% through sexual activity
29 million people are HIV+ in sub-Saharan Africa - by far the world no. 1 in AIDS. AIDS
doesn't choose. If you live sexually immoral, you will get AIDS, sooner or later.
Conclusion (Dr Albu van Eeden - President of DFL):
Dr Albu used the illustration of a latex glove, which symbolises our body. Doctors use
those gloves to heal people. Criminals use it to hide their fingerprints. As you lie,
steal, flirt with the opposite sex, etc. Satan creeps deeper and deeper into your life,
and before you realise it, he rules your life and guides your thoughts. Eventually, when
you get diseases, it is not because God hates you, but because He loves you. He breaks the
glove (your life), so that you can see who is in control of your life. As you come to Him,
ask His forgiveness for your sins, He cleanses and washes you and make you new.
Each one should heed these words spoken, come to Christ for safety and turn from all
known sin.
