Youth
Week - July 2003 TLW is an organisation run by young people for young people. It is aimed at the young people in South Africa. One of the biggest problems in SA is unwanted pregnancies at schools. TLW encourages young people to abstain from sex until marriage. TLW play - Teenage pregnancies and AIDS Click here for the photos of the play TLW presented a play of a group of schoolchildren that start relationships with the opposite sex while at school. One of the girls, Zinhle, even has a relationship with the teacher. The mother of this girl is oblivious to the true state of affairs and is quite happy that the teacher 'sacrifice' even his private time to help her daughter till late at night. The teacher bribes her with chocolate, money, etc. She feels quite flattered about all the interest she receives and boasts to her friends about it. However, one of the girls in the class do not go with the rest and oppose their evil ways. She decides to invite TLW to come to speak to her class. One day Zinhle discovers that she is pregnant, and the teacher doesn't want the baby. She and her friends talk about abortion, and explain to each other how to go about it. Another one of her friends complains that she is weak and thin. She does not yet realise she has AIDS. The upright girl finally manages to get TLW to speak to her class. The TLW presenter, Thabile, explains to them what TLW is all about, reads the pledgecard, and then gave them an opportunity to ask questions. As the TLW discussion continues, the teacher walks out. Zinhle also is clearly troubled. The class ask serious questions about purity, AIDS, abortion, and Thabile expains to them how one can find new hope and forgiveness for one's sins in Christ alone. She explains also that it is never too late to start afresh and sign the card. Even if you are HIV+, Jesus can still forgive your sins and cleanse you. Even though you will bear the consequences of your deeds, your remaining life will still be worthwhile. Living a pure life as an HIV+ person will also extend your life. Afterwards many young people signed the pledge cards to remain sexually abstinant until marriage. |
