| YOUTH WEEK - DECEMBER 2000
Sunday 10 December
As thousands of children and teens gathered together with the Sunday
congregation it was a sea of faces spread throughout the auditorium. And, for the first
time since the Youth Week began, the sun came out.
A powerful message was delivered by Rev Erlo Stegen on the conference
theme: "There is a way...". He quoted from Proverbs 14: 12 and the end of 1
Kings 13: 33 & 34. Jereboam was used as an example of following "one's own
way." Though God had chosen him to be king over the 10 tribes he allowed his heart to
be led astray by other ways. He saw Jerusalem as a threat and built his own temple in
Bethel. Despite the warning from the prophet, the miracle of Jereboam's hand withering and
being restored, and the sign of the young prophet being killed by the lion, the King's
heart still went after other God's and he condoned anyone who wanted to join the
priesthood. His father, Solomon, was led astray by many women. Jereboam's heart went after
other ways, other Gods.
An opportunity was given to those who wanted to bring their sins to
Christ and repent of their own ways. There was a huge response as a thousand or more
prayed at the altar. Afterwards Gospel literature was handed out to those who had turned
to the Lord.

The afternoon service was taken by Michael Ngubane. He preached from
1Tim 4:12, being an example so that we can be unashamed.
