YOUTH WEEK - DECEMBER 2000
TUESDAY 12 December
The text for this morning's service was taken from Matthew 7:12-14. Rev Erlo
Stegen compared the great sayings of philosophers like Hellel, Aristotle, Plato, Socrates
and Confucius, who also spoke about avoiding things you don't like being done to you. But,
as he pointed out, there is a fundamental difference between the sayings of these great
philosophers and this saying of Jesus in our text. The sages of wisdom emphasised the
negative and passive aspect whereas Jesus emphasised the positive and active role.
This afternoon was a presentation of Christians for Truth (see CFT) and Radio Khwezi (see Khwezi). Then, a time was given for
testimonies.
This evening the Open Doors organisation took the service and presented two films
about the suffering church in the Sudan and in Iran.
