YOUTH WEEK - DECEMBER 2000
WEDNESDAY 13 December
As we draw to the end of the week it becomes necessary to start with
transport arrangements. Last night 2 of the buses had to start taking those who live far
away and about 200 children began their 10 hour trip back to Nelspruit and Malelane.
This afternoon and this evening is a special programme put on by True Love
Waits (see TLW).
The TLW programme this afternoon included a short play and a talk about Aids
and Abstinence (more about this effective play later, with photos). The Premier of the
Province (see Premier's
website) then addressed the youth about the importance of returning to real values as
a protection against Aids. He said that "with Christ there is a future for us."
The Premier blamed the "breakup of families" as being mostly responsible for the
catastrophe of Aids.
This morning Pastor Joseph Chauke taught the young people some songs, much to
their delight. (RealAudio tracks will probably be made available later.) Jeffrey Newlands
led a devotion about the blind man on the way to Jerico. Then Rev Stegen shared from God's
Word, Matt 7: 13 and Eccl 11:9.
The afternoon and evening meetings consisted of a special presentation by
True Love Waits (see tlw).
The audience sat spellbound as TLW introduced it's program by means of mimes, plays, and
dramatised statistics. (photos to come)
A guest speaker addressed the youth on the subject of Aids. Wellington, from NAPWA (People
Living with Aids), told the young people how shocked he was when in 1998 he was informed
that he was HIV positive. Since then, he turned away from his previous loose lifestyle and
is a faithful member of his local church in near Port Shepstone.
