Day Three Youth Conference June 2000

9:55am
Children continued to arrive during the night and accommodation became a crisis. But as we said yesterday, things can always be stretched at Kwasizabantu. The two dining rooms were packed with girls. Well over a hundred boys had to sleep in the auditorium on the benches - the mattresses were finished.
Many more children are expected to arrive through the day.

We expect a packed auditorium (which can seat 10,000 at a squash) for this morning's service which begins at 10am. Listen later to a RealAudio version of the full service.

2:00pm
The auditorium was a sight to behold! There were so many people one wondered where they had all come from! It was a packed audience with some even standing around the sides.
Rev Stegen preached on the meaning of the ear of the High Priest's servant. Man hurts but Jesus heals, was the theme of the message. Peter had to be sharply rebuked for his rash act of defending Jesus. The Lord healed the ear of His enemy who had come to arrest Him. The second point was that we need to be careful lest we attack the spiritual ear of others and cause them to be deaf to the Gospel, by the way we live and the things we say. Thirdly, Jesus was saying (though not verbally): "It's not the blood of High Priest's servant that must be shed but I must spill my blood for the remission of sins." (to listen to the whole service click here)

Lunch is still being served to the 10,000 and more who are here. Rice, chicken stew and coleslaw is being enjoyed right now (see photos). God provides miraculously!

The next service will be at 3pm.

8:30pm
This afternoon's service began with a 15 minute devotion by one of the new co-workers, Robert Maphanga. He spoke from 1Cor 1:25 - "Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men." Robert, who is an ex-pupil of DSS and then studied at Trinity Bible College in Pietermartizburg, expounded on the theme of God's wisdom in comparison to man's. After that, a young man from Ladysmith gave his testimony - how he was saved out of a life of womanizing and other sins.

This evening's service is the film, THE REDEEMER, which is wonderful depiction of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Many boys will be sleeping on benches and floors tonight because of the lack of mattresses. If possible, we will inquire about buying some foam mattresses tomorrow.
