Day Two - June 2000 YOUTH CONFERENCE
10:15am
So many children arrived during the night that new arrangements have to be made
for accommodation. The girls hostels are completely full. The school hall and the main
dining hall are probably to be evacuated for girls sleeping accommodation.
This morning's service will start with an introduction to explain, especially for the new
children, regarding meal-times, etc. After that, Rev Erlo Stegen will continue to preach.
Most services will begin with a 15 minute devotion by one of the young people.
For many of these children this is the first time (and sadly, for some it could be
the last) to hear the Gospel and respond to the invitation to repent and believe. Thank
you for your prayer support.
2:15pm
God worked mightily in this morning's service. Speaking on Matthew 26: 14-16 Rev Erlo
Stegen asked the question "what value do you place on Jesus - is it just 30 silver
pieces?" He asked the youth to respond to Christ by coming forward and speak to God
about their sins. Each one should call upon the Lord who hears and forgives. At least a
thousand children, teens and adults filled the altar area as they cried to the Lord for
mercy, some kneeling, some calling upon God loudly and many weeping. May the Christ do a
lasting work of grace in their lives! (see photo of pennants at
altar)
9:30pm
This afternoon's service highlighted the Aids problem. Doctors for Life
President, Dr. Albu van Eeden, gave the latest statistics published by the UN this week. A
representative of PLWA (People Living With Aids), who is HIV positive, told his story and
how to handle people who have Aids. Dr van Eeden emphasized the importance of Biblical
chastity as the only safe protection against Aids. There was also a time for questions and
answers.
This evening, Rev Erlo Stegen preached on the servanthood of Christ. Basing his sermon on
John 13: 3> he showed how the King of kings took up the servant's towel to serve
others. "Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that
He had come from God and was going to God...took up a towel...".
Another invitation was given and many responded to the call to follow Christ.
Accommodation can always be stretched at Kwasizabantu. Even though all the
dormitories are completely full there are always other options. The school hall and the
dining hall have been filled with mattresses for girls to sleep on. The problem is now
with sleeping-place for the boys. It may become necessary during the night to put new
arrivals in the auditorium to sleep. Unfortunately, there are no more mattresses left.
Thank you for interceding for these children.
