Opening of Reformed Church Kwasizabantu mission was requested to assist with the dedication of a new Reformed Church in Africa. The official dedication of building was held on Tuesday 26 September 2000, at 7pm. Although the church was originally built in 1948 it had become too small for the growing congregation, under the leadership of Rev Francis. The old building was demolished and a bigger, double-story building was erected on the on top of the old church rubble. Pastor Derrick King, of Kwasizabantu in Pietermaritzburg, gave a short talk for the unveiling of the plaque. He spoke about the "true foundation" referred to in 2Tim 2:19. Then, together with Rev Francis, Ds Meyers (of the local Dutch Reformed Church) prayers of praise to God and new dedication to His glory, were made by the three ministers. Kjell Olsen then gave the dedication sermon based on 2 Chron 7:14, 19-22. He mentioned that the opening of a new church was an encouraging sign in the midst of the general downswing in the tone of Christendom in South Africa, where many congregations are dwindling in numbers and some churches are selling out to secular businesses. |
